Chalcopyrite

Chalcopyrite is a copper iron sulphide mineral that is named from the Greek word for “Copper” and “Brass”, and can most notably be seen as shades of yellow, green and grey. When Chalcopyrite is exposed to acid, its colour palette changes to deep purple, blues, violets, and yellows. This treated Chalcopyrite is what you will find at most shows and crystal shops, and is commonly referred to as “Peacock Ore”.

Chalcopyrite has been the primary ore of copper since smelting began over five thousand years ago.  Some chalcopyrite ores contain significant amounts of zinc substituting for iron. Others contain enough silver or gold that the precious metal content more than pays the costs of mining.

Chalcopyrite, also called Peacock Ore is an uplifting stone, it grounds nervous energy which allows the body and mind to let go of stress and become calm. It can be used to enhance our perception and to awaken inner sight. Chalcopyrite removes energy blockages, cleansing, activating and aligning the chakras and energy bodies at the same time. And while there are obviously plenty of creative ways (hello Pinterest!) to take advantage of the healing powers of crystals, if you’re looking to take full advantage of their witchy vibrations and magickal energy, there are ways to place them around your home intentionally, so that their energy can support you in various specific environments.

And don’t forget that the energy of your home can shift over time.  If you’ve ever been in a space that was totally spick and span, and flooded with life giving natural light, but somehow just felt heavy, or uncomfortable, then you can understand how a home’s energy is dictated by more than just cleanliness.
