Spotlight on | Bumblebee Jasper

Expect to feel quite the buzz if you get your hands on the rare and elusive Bumblebee Jasper.

Bumblebee Jasper’s distinctive markings vibrate with both the sacral and solar plexus chakras, increasing zest for life and enabling you to accept change, find new opportunities, increase self-esteem and make decisions without being overwhelmed by emotions.  This sulfurous volcanic stone reminds you that possibilities are limitless, by scorching through self-imposed barriers that may be preventing you from moving forward.

The History of Bumblebee Jasper

Bumblebee Jasper originates near the hot vents of Mount Papandayan, Indonesia, an active volcano. The formation of this gemstone takes place in cracks, known as fumaroles, through which steam and gas escape.

As these cracks collect rain, they become natural hot springs. In some breaks, nearby sediments liquefy and begin to boil.  Some of these cracks become filled with a myriad of colours, due to the presence of volcanic ash, gypsum, barite, sulphur and orpiment. Gradually, as these mud pools cool, the gemstone formation takes place.

Miners extract Bumblebee Jasper from the solidified mud pools.

Because it is found inside an active volcano, Bumblebee Jasper’s distinct yellow colouring comes from the presence of sulphur, which can be toxic (which is why we only stock polished pieces to maintain safety), so take care in handling and always wash your hands afterwards.  Bzzzzzzzz.
