Spotlight On | Sunstone

The effervescent energy of Sunstone breeds confidence, power and leadership and reminds the bearer of the joy that creativity is meant to inspire. Use this creativity to inspire positive progress in your relationships, work and passions.

Sunstone will encourage you to reveal your hidden talents, heighten your sensuality and put a pep in your step when it comes to romance.  Bringing Sunstone into the bedroom with your partner (or partners… no judgement here) can have a heady, next level effect, kindling and igniting the passions within.

Sunstone will also help increase your metabolism by improving your digestion and retaining your body’s vitality.  So long Jenny Craig.  I have Sunstone now.

The History of Sunstone

Sunstone began as a rare and expensive gemstone until deposits were found in Norway and Siberia.  However, this stone has a special history in the United States, where sunstone varieties called “heliolite” were declared the state mineral for Oregon in 1987.

A Native American legend says that Sunstone was created by the blood of a great warrior, who was wounded by an arrow. The blood, which gave Sunstone its shade of red, instilled his spirit into the stone.

Sunstone has also been discovered in Viking burial mounds and in ancient Greece is was thought to represent the sun god, bringing life and abundance to those fortunate enough to own it.

Just as the sun brings life to the earth, Sunstone will breathe life into your creative spirit.  Sunstone is said to promote energy, vitality and inspiration.  No Red Bull required.

Recognising Sunstone

Sunstone is typically a reddy/brown colour, with a metallic glitter that is caused by tiny platelets of hematite of goethite.  The glitter is usually gold or red, but on rare occasions – green or blue.

Sunstone is composed of sodium calcium aluminium silicate, with a MOHs hardness of 6-6.5.

What is Sunstone used for?

Has your life been  a little… lacklustre of late?  Are you feeling flat or flighty?  Lacking excitement and anticipation?  Rather than waiting around for that next Tinder match to rock your world – Sunstone can remind you to take the time to enjoy the little things in life.

Reflecting the bright energy of the sun, Sunstone clears and cleanses all the chakras, helping remove hooks from possessive loved ones, lovers, or any energy vampires.  It is especially of use when ties need to be cut or if you have difficultly saying “no”.  Bright Sunstone helps to kick co-dependant habits to the curb and is especially beneficial in overcoming procrastination.  So next time you’re considering cleaning your bathroom for the fourth time instead of finishing that report – reach for the Sunstone and feeling that powerful, creativity energy flow through you!

Particularly energising to the base and sacral chakras – the gold and orange shades of Sunstone will stimulate your powers of leadership and will, creativity and sexuality.  Brining passion back into your life (and bedroom) is one of Sunstone’s best-known healing properties – reminding you to savour every moment and tap into your inner-goddess.

Using the bright, guiding light of Sunstone allows gut feelings, intuition and other “non-linear” lines of communication come to the fore, allowing you to go with the flow in good health and good spirit.

Sunstones are also excellent healing stones for releasing stress and boosting the metabolism and digestion which may aid weight loss, as well as aiding in healing constant or chronic throat issues and muscle and cartilage problems.

And if you suffer from SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) – try carrying a little beam of sun(stone) around in your pocket, to bring warmth, strength and stress relief during the darker months.
