The History of Fuchsite

A fairly common mineral, first discovered in the early 1800s, Fuchsite was named in honour of its discoverer, the famed German mineralogist Johann Nepomuk von Fuchs.  Fuchsite can be found all over the world, but some of the most spectacular pieces have been discovered in Brazil, South American and India.

Shamans and ancient healers called this mineral the “Healers’ Stone”, as it was widely believed that the Fuchsite stone’s green colour radiated energy, helping both spiritual and mental wellbeing.

Recognising Fuchsite

Usually a very light green stone, Fuchsite can also be found in shades ranging from dark green to emerald.  Getting its verdant green hue from the chromium it contains, the more chromium it holds, the more vibrant and noticeable the green is.  Fuchsite crystallises in the form of masses, scales, layered plates, and even tiny tabular crystals.

Fuchsite has a hardness of 2.5 on the Mohs scale.
