What’s In A Shape? | Crystal Shapes, What Do They Mean?

Using crystals for their spiritual and healing properties can be fun and fascinating and is a killer way to connect with the earth’s energy.  But, when you really start digging into the magickal world of sparkly stones, it can start getting really overwhelming.

Not only do crystals come in every colour of the rainbow and serve different intended purposes, they are also found in many different shape formations.  Newbies to the crystal world may think the way a stone is cut or shaped is purely aesthetic, but there’s a little more to a crystal’s shape than meets the eye.  Just as the colours of the stones convey unique meanings, crystal shapes also matter. And while experts say that the structure of a crystal doesn’t change the type of energy it emits, the shape DOES affect the way you receive said energy.

Knowing which shape does what can help you amplify your crystal experience, based on the mood you’re in.  Need to focus?  Use a crystal point.  Looking for some stability?  Go for the grounding essence of a cube.

Crystal shapes matter.  Here’s what they mean and how to amplify their power.

  1. Tumbled Stones

Tumbled stones are a great place to start your crystal adventure. For a small investment, the benefits you receive from these pocket-sized dynamos are significant.

This is the most common cut and polished shape of crystal out there.  Small chunks of stone are tumble polished to give them a smooth and shiny surface. The form is irregular and sizes can very, but they’re generally… travel sized.

You can easily carry them around in your pocket or wallet, or even tuck them inside your bra to help you connect with the energy all day long. Having one so close, maybe even touching you directly, can act as a reminder of your intention.

  1. Pyramids

Pyramids have four triangular sides and a square base. Pyramids can both anchor and direct energies. Their strong base acts as an anchor for your intention and the apex of the pyramid sends that intention out into the universe.

Pyramids are killer tools for both manifesting and amplifying energy.  Whether it’s a self-serving stack of dollar dollar bills you’re looking to manifest or you’re just sending sweet universal love out into the universe, pyramid crystals will take you to that next level.

This sacred shape has been used by many ancient civilisations, perhaps none more famously than the ancient Egyptians. They believed that pyramids symbolised the rays of the Sun.

  1. Spheres

Also known as Crystal Balls, spheres are cut and polished to be perfectly round. Spheres radiate energy smoothly and evenly in all directions. The perfect symmetry of a sphere brings balance, peace, and relaxing energies into its environment.  They can also slow down and neutralise harmful or unbalanced energies.

The zen vibe these babies give off makes them great meditation buddies, providing a deep sense of wholeness, as if you hold the world in the palm of your hand. They unite all parts of your being and connect you with the energy of your surroundings.

  1. Hearts

This can be any crystal cut into a traditional heart shape.  Crystal hearts represent love (no surprises there) and connect with the energy of our heart chakra.  A heart crystal can be placed over this chakra in healing work.  Focus your energy and attention on your heart and imagine it filling with pure loving light.

Crystal hearts are powerful allies in helping to attract love from others, as well as nourishing yourself with love from within.

  1. Points

Crystal points are one of the most commonly used and beneficial shapes to work with.  As its name suggests, having a crystal point around keeps you sharp and on point.  A point is your mystical BFF whenever you need to stay uber-focused.

The most popular of ‘point’ crystals would have to be a generator. Generators are crystal with a large point, with six equal sides and six equal faces that lead to that point. There are also Obelisks; An Obelisk crystal is a tapering stone pillar, typically having a square or rectangular cross-section, set up as a monument or landmark.  Another ‘point’ of interest (see what we did there) is a double terminated point, which channels energy in two directions at once and provides a bridge between two energy points.

Points are powerful manifestation tools, as they help to manifest your dreams, wishes, and intentions at a much faster rate by directing your intention up into the universe.

Write down a wish, mantra or affirmation on a piece of paper, fold the paper and place the crystal point on top, pointing up.  Your point will direct the energy from the written intention upward into the cosmos and radiate it out into the surrounding environment.

  1. Cubes

The cube shape is associated with the root chakra, which connects you with the physical. Meditating with cube shaped crystals can help to ground your energy and reconnect you with the powerful energy of the earth.

You can also place them in each corner of a room to seal, protect and ground the space from negative outside energies.

  1. Clusters

A crystal cluster, as you’ve probably guessed, is a cluster of crystal points in their natural form.  This might just be our favourite form – mostly because they’re hella pretty to look at thanks to their inherent sparkle and magickal vibes.

A cluster occurs when a number of points form together on a matrix. Due to the convergence of multiple crystal points, a cluster vibrates at an especially high energy.  Crystal clusters enhance harmony and peace wherever they stand. They radiate divine energy out to the environment and absorb negative energies.

Try placing a cluster on your dining table, coffee table, or other communal space in your home.  They’re also great in conference rooms or in your office.  Clusters can help create a space of open dialogue and community.

                  8.  Worry Stones

Worry stones are smooth, polished stones, in the shape of an oval with a thumb-sized indentation, used for relaxation or anxiety relief. When you're about to lose it, grab your worry stone and feel  those worries melt away.

The action of moving one's thumb back and forth across the stone is very effective at taking your mind off whatever is troubling you. Add in the meaning of whatever  your worry stone is carved out of and tooot tooot, all aboard the calm train! These beauties will always have your back. Pop one in your bra, one in your pocket, one in your bag, car - whatever floats your boat - be prepared.

We hope this helps you to understand perhaps why you're drawn to a certain shape, or how you can utilise a shape in the future 😊
