PROTECTION | CLARITY | REMEMBRANCE
Rosemary has been doing magical housekeeping for centuries.
Across old European folk traditions, Rosemary has been associated with protection, purification, remembrance and blessing the home. It has been burned, hung near doorways and worked into ritual practices intended to protect the household and clear unwanted influences.
As a cleansing herb, Rosemary has a crisp, purposeful energy. Think energetic windows thrown open.
It is commonly used for cleansing stagnant energy, strengthening protection, improving focus, supporting mental clarity, honouring ancestors, home blessings and creating energetic boundaries.
Rosemary is particularly lovely when cleansing a workspace, study area or home after stress, arguments, lots of visitors or simply one of those weeks where the entire house seems to have absorbed everybody's mood.
HOW TO USE: Hold over a heatproof bowl and light the tip of the cleansing stick. Once alight, allow it to burn for a few seconds before gently blowing out the flame. The herbs should continue to smoulder and release smoke. Guide the smoke throughout your space, particularly around entrances, windows and corners, while focusing on what you wish to clear or protect.
TO EXTINGUISH: Press the burning end firmly into sand, earth or another fireproof surface until no smoke, glow or heat remains.
Burn only in a well-ventilated space. Never leave burning herbs unattended and keep away from children, pets and flammable objects.
Why cleanse?
A reset for your space, your stuff, and your spirit.
Let’s be real—energy builds up. Whether it’s from a lingering flu, a bad breakup, new housemates with commitment issues (especially to the dish rack), or just the low hum of life, every space collects vibes. Some are fab. Some… not so much.
That’s where cleansing comes in.
Cleansing (also known as smudging) clears out stagnant, heavy, or just plain funky energy and invites in something lighter, brighter, and more aligned with your current intentions. Think of it as an energetic spring clean—or a spiritual power wash for your home, body, or crystals.
Still wondering if it’s really necessary?
Unless you’re a magical unicorn living in a Candy Mountain dreamhouse, even the happiest homes gather up unwanted energy. So yes. It’s necessary. And no—you can’t over cleanse. It’s like good fries. More = better.
WHEN SHOULD YOU CLEANSE?
In short: when the vibe feels off. But here are some great times to reach for your sage, Palo Santo, or cleansing spray:
- After illness or grief
- After a breakup, argument or big emotional release
- Moving into a new home (or get new roomies)
- Bringing in new crystals, furniture or antiques
- Following guests, rituals, or big life changes
- Around the full moon or any time you’re doing spiritual work
- Anytime your space feels “meh” and you want it to feel magical again
A Little History for the Nerds (hi, we see you 👋)
Cleansing rituals have been around forever—in Native American ceremonies, Feng Shui practices, Wiccan rites, and even Catholic traditions. Whether it’s smoke, salt, bells, sound bowls or intention alone, the core idea is the same: clear out the crap, make room for peace.
So whether you cleanse weekly, monthly, or just when things get weird—you’re doing sacred work. Trust the process. The energy shift is real.
How to Cleanse
HOW TO CLEANSE YOUR SPACE (WITHOUT BURNING DOWN THE JOINT)
So, first things first—not all sage is created equal. If you’re reaching for the dried herbs in the Aldi spice rack… babe, no. You’ll want a proper sage bundle or Palo Santo stick, and luckily, we’ve got you sorted → Shop Cleansing Tools
Here’s what you’ll need:
• A sage stick, Palo Santo, or other botanical bundle
• A fireproof bowl (think clay dish or abalone shell)
• Matches or a lighter
• A bowl of sand (optional, but super handy for extinguishing)
Bonus Tools:
• A feather to fan the smoke
• A white candle to set the vibe
• Your favourite crystal for added intention
And remember—all plants are sacred. Each has its own energy and spiritual properties. Trust your intuition when picking your bundle—your spirit knows what it needs.
THE 10-STEP SMOKE CLEANSE RITUAL
Cleansing is about intention, not perfection. So don’t stress—just slow down, stay mindful, and breathe.
🔥 1. Remove metal
Take off metal jewellery (unless it’s spiritual or sacred to you—wedding rings, amulets, etc.).
🔥 2. Clear your head
Drop the to-do list, your next meal plan, or whatever’s rattling around upstairs. Get centred.
🔥 3. Light a white candle (optional but fab)
This sets the tone and helps anchor your intention.
🔥 4. Ignite your bundle
Use the candle or lighter to light your sage or Palo Santo. Let it catch fire for about 30 seconds, then gently blow it out—think glowing embers, not full flame. You want smoke, not sparks.
🔥 5. Cleanse yourself first
Start with you. Waft the smoke over your head and work down to your feet. Breathe deeply.
🔥 6. Cleanse your space
Walk clockwise around the room, guiding the smoke into corners, cupboards, mirrors, and plumbing areas—these spots are negative-energy magnets.
🔥 7. Stay intentional
Keep your thoughts clear. You don’t need to chant (unless that’s your thing). A simple intention like:
“I invite light and protection into this space. I release any stagnant or negative energy.”
will do beautifully.
🔥 8. Mind your embers
Let any hot cinders fall into your bowl safely as you go.
🔥 9. Close the loop
Once you’ve made your way around the space, return to your starting point and gently extinguish the stick—pressing it into a bowl of sand usually does the trick.
🔥 10. Give thanks
Let the ashes cool, then return them to the earth. Say a little thank you to the plant spirit and the land for their help.
And that’s it. Simple, sacred, powerful.
Now go on—smoke that space like the spiritual badass you are. Let the energy reset and the good vibes roll in.
PLEASE NOTE: Cleansing sticks are intended for spiritual and ritual use. Magical and energetic properties are based on traditional folklore and spiritual practices. Always burn responsibly in a well-ventilated area using a fireproof vessel. Never leave burning herbs unattended. Natural bundles will vary slightly in colour, shape and appearance.
