Marcasite is iron sulphide (FeS₂), the same chemical formula as pyrite, but it’s a different crystal structure (marcasite is orthorhombic, pyrite is cubic/isometric). Marcasite can be more prone to oxidation and “pyrite disease” style deterioration, especially in humidity, which is why keeping it dry and stored well matters if you want it to stay looking fabulous.
