The History of Dalmatian Jasper
Dalmatian Jasper, better known as Dalmatian Stone, is typically found and mined in Chihuahua, Mexico.
According to legend, the Ancient Egyptians wore Jasper scarabs as amulets, as the crystal was believed to increase sexual potency. And according to the Bible, Jasper was a gift to humankind from God and was intended to be the first foundation stone of the New Jerusalem.
Both the indigenous peoples of North America and Asia are said to have credited the power of rain making to this uniquely marked stone.
Recognising Dalmatian Jasper
This distinctive stone is named for its likeness to any one of 101 spotty doggos (I know, shocking right?).
It is a mix of Feldspar and Quartz with spots of brown and black or even an orangey colour, which is related to the presence of iron oxide in some stones. The spots within the Dalmatian Jasper are usually Black Tourmaline, enabling Dalmatian Jasper to carry the Tourmaline’s grounding, protective energies, giving this stone a unique combination of the innocence of youth coupled with the wisdom and spiritual grounding of an ancient yogi.
Dalmatian Jasper has a hardness of 5-7.5 on the Mohs scale.
