First discovered in 1801 in Mexico, vanadinite deposits have since been unearthed in South America, Europe, Africa, and North America.
Recognising Vanadinite
A dense, brittle mineral, Vanadinite is usually found in the form of red, yellow or orange hexagonal crystals. Usually forming where lead minerals are oxidised (often in areas with an arid climate), Vanadinite is not a common mineral, but can be found in small quantities around the world.
Vanadinite has a hardness of 3-4 on the Mohs scale.
