Labradorite is a calcium-rich member of the plagioclase feldspar family. Its famous flash, known as labradorescence, is created when light enters the stone and reflects between microscopic internal layers formed as different feldspar compositions separated during cooling.

Those wild colours aren’t actually pigments sitting inside the crystal. They’re an optical interference effect, meaning the stone is literally manipulating light. Mother Nature really said special effects department.
